Rodriguez became acting president in early January after the US captured President Nicolas Maduro in a military operation. He is being held in New York on various charges, which he denies. Rodriguez initially criticized Maduro’s arrest but has since had various dealings with the Trump administration, including an agreement for the US to control 65 billion barrels of Venezuelan oil.
Protester Margot Monasterios said Venezuelans are “grateful” to Trump for ousting Maduro
tripscan but noted that key figures from his inner circle remain in power.
“Even though we thank you for taking away the worst of them all on January 3, you left us with the 40 thieves,” she said.
Away from the protest, other citizens shared similar opinions.
